PLEASE PLAY QUIETLY

The ten large blocks on the main level of Fogelson Library are here for us to play with!

Penny Dombroski, SFAI Visiting Artist

At Santa Fe University, we are lucky to have a relationship with--not to mention proximity to--the Santa Fe Art Institute, host to many visiting artists.  In October of 2011, one of the visitors was  New Zealand designer Penny Dombroski.  Penny was kind enough to donate her installation project "Please Play Quietly" to SFUAD.  It is now on the main level of Fogelson Library.

For almost a year now we have been enjoying Dombroski's work and the many different arrangements designed by students who come in to play with the blocks.  The project is the artist's "homage to a quiet childhood that was filled with imagination."  She describes Please Play Quietly  as a  Cuisenaire Rod Furniture Installation, a nostalgic view of an educational manipulative (Cuisenaire Rods) that provided so much learning pleasure that they evolved into toys for her.  Now she has made them into giant toys for us.

Come in with a friend and play with our blocks!
