The Nobel Prizes

This week, our Dinner & a Movie display has a Swedish theme in honor of the Nobel Prizes awarded last week and earlier this week. We have two cookbooks with Swedish recipes, like    Swedish pancakes, Lucia bread, and several yummy ways to prepare herring: Herring and     Potato Casserole, "Melted" Herring, Herring Platter, Jellied Herring, Herring Rolls, Herring Balls, Crusted Herring, Herring Soup and Herring Salad. If you have some unused reindeer meat in the freezer, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to prepare it and have your friends over to dine and enjoy one of those funny, upbeat Ingmar Bergman movies.

The display features movies by Bergman (The Seventh Seal, Persona),

and Bille August (Pelle the Conqueror);

films starring Ingrid Bergman (Casablanca)

Greta Garbo (Queen Christina);

and a few films about Nobel Laureates.

Speaking of Ingmar Bergman, if you are familiar with his films--whether you like them or not--and you have not seen  De Düva (The Dove), drop what you are doing and go to http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3803584387889303730
to see this 1968 winner of "The Golden Escargot" award.

Yes, this is Madeline Kahn in, according to IMDB, her first credited role.
(Come on, you have time. . .it's only 15 minutes.)

Grattis på födelsedagen! (Bara att se om du var uppmärksamma.)

Var så god!
