BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT

Visit Bandelier National Monument!

Thanksgiving weekend.  No classes and the library is closed Thursday-Saturday.  What else is there to do?

The park is open from 9AM to 5:30PM every day this month.  You can drive directly to the park and enter for a fee of $12 per car.

Beginning your day at the  Visitor Center, where you can learn about the history of the park, get a map and ask advice from a Park Ranger about activities you would enjoy.  A short and informative film loops throughout the day and you can view some exhibits in the museum area.
Most visitors explore Bandelier with a walk on the Main Loop Trail. This short 1.2 mile loop trail starts from the Visitor Center and leads through excavated archeological sites on the floor of Frijoles Canyon. A portion of this trail is handicapped accessible.
Other trails in this area include the 3 mile round-trip Falls Trail to the beautiful Upper Falls and various trails of different lengths and difficulty leading up to the mesa tops.

Today, visitors can climb a series of ladders to reach Alcove House. This site that was home to approx. 25 Ancestral Pueblo people is located 140 ft above the canyon floor. NPS photo by Sally King.
