ATTENTION SONG WRITERS! NEW BOOKS

We received a generous donation of 54 books about music.   Some are specifically about songwriting.  We now have in the collection these titles:

Successful Lyric Writing   by  Sheila Davis

Songwriting  by Mark & Cathy Liggett
Through the Jingle Jungle by Steve Karmen

Songwriters on Songwriting  by Paul Zollo

Words to Rhyme With  by Willard R. Espy
This is a terrific 660-page book of lists of rhyming words.
It's fun to look through even if you're not looking for a rhyme!

On the art of singing we have these new books:
Great Singers on Great Singing
Music for the Voice
Caruso's Method of Voice Production
The Choral Tradition
Choral Music: A Symposium
The Singer and His Art

The other new titles include several opera guides.  These are libretti but include analysis and much more information than just the words and stage instructions.  One is a 300+ page analysis of the meaning behind the Masonic symbols in The Magic Flute.

I think my favorite of these new books is The Great Opera Stars in Historic Photographs: 343 Portaits from the 1850's to the 1940's.   Take a look at these samples!

Cover (It really is green, very strange.)

Enrico Caruso as Radames in Verdi's Aida, page 61.

Geraldine Farrar as Thais,  page 95.

Paul Bender as Fasolt in Das Rheingold.                                                                         The costumes from the Wagner operas are definitely my favorites!
Take a look through these books.  Some are on   exhibit near the entrance to the library on the "more new books" cart.
