THE LEGACY OF GREER GARSON AND BUDDY FOGELSON

Eileen Evelyn Greer Garson was born in London on September 29, 1904.  As a child she was known as Eileen, but took Greer Garson as her stage name in 1932.  (Greer was her mother's family surname.  It is a shortened Irish contraction of the Scottish MacGregor.)

It was in 1949, when Greer married Buddy Fogelson, that she visited Santa Fe and took up part-time residence at the Forked Lightning Ranch near Pecos, NM.  This is also when her relationship with the College of Santa Fe began. Greer and Buddy donated a substantial amount of time and money to the College, and the performing arts building and the library center were named for them.

The Fogelson Library Center is a trio of buildings near the main entrance of the College:  The Forum, The Southwest Annex, and Fogelson Library.  Formal dedication of the Library Center was held on October 18, 1970, forty years ago.

We will celebrate the library's 40th anniversary the week of October 18 with exhibitions, displays of archival materials, special programs and CAKE.  Check in on this blog and on our Facebook page for interesting facts, trivia, contest, and requests for art and video submissions all this month!
