Right here in Santa Fe, we have a wonderful resource. Don't go through the whole semester without visiting the New Mexico History Museum. The museum reopened in May after extensive remodeling and expansion. The Palace of the Governors, where the entire museum exhibits were formerly located, is now an artifact of the History Museum!
Theatre majors, especially those of you interested in costuming, should be sure to visit the "Fashioning New Mexico: What We Wore to Mark Life’s Passages" exhibit. There are several examples of formal and wedding attire exhibited. And have you ever wondered how bustles were designed? There is a "bustle form" in the exhibit, along with many other interesting items! http://media.museumofnewmexico.org/events.php?action=detail&eventID=407
Graphic design majors: take the time to see the Palace Press print shop and visit with its curator, Tom Leech. Tom take special pride in the print shop and will show you the antique presses and other vintage items in the shop. Also at the Palace Press is a small library of books on printing, type, and related subjects. Some of the volumes are hard to find. Tom is happy to help you with research, curiosity, or general learning about printing. If you want to use the library, he asks that you call to make sure he will be there. To make an appointment to use the print shop library, call (505) 476-5096 or email him at thomas.leech@state.nm.us. For more information, see the Press web site at http://www.palaceofthegovernors.org/PrintShop/hmpg.html
The museum offers FREE ADMISSION on Friday evenings from 5-8.
