Sandwich Day

Sandwich Day falls during the first week of November.  Tradition says that John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, notable for his gambling and credited with the invention of the sandwich, was born November 3, 1718.  To commemorate this noble innovation, Fogelson Library is sponsoring this week's Dinner-and-a-Movie theme:  Sandwiches.  (And because of the scarcity of sandwich films, by extension, food.    Mmmmmmmmm, food.)

Many of our cookbooks have ideas for sandwiches, from goopy Reubens to dainty watercress sandwiches.  See the Italian idea of a sandwich in Panini, Bruschetta, Crostini:  Sandwiches Italian Style, at call number TX818. L3 1994.

Hungry?

You can drool over pictures of sandwiches, like this Mooncake Foods "Veggie Special" at http://scanwiches.com/.

There is even a song for this week's theme.  You can listen to it here:

This weekend's featured movies include:

Tom Jones

Albert Finney as Tom Jones in the famous, slurpy and  lusty dining scene.

The animated Ratatouille

The story takes place in a restaurant where, um, rats. . .make, um. . .quesadillas?

And, of course, Super Size Me

so we can be reminded of the power of the sandwich.
